Liturgical Celebrations This Week
Please join us for our weekday Mass at 8:00 a.m. when we will celebrate several Feast Days.
Monday, October 5, St. Faustina Kowalska, Virgin: Born in 1905, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy at age 20. She received visions of Jesus, who entrusted her with the mission to proclaim God’s infinite mercy. Her “Diary of My Soul” records these revelations and her spiritual journey. She is the Patron of Divine Mercy, Poland.
Also on Monday, October 5, Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, Priest: Born in Bavaria in 1819, he studied theology in Munich. He came to the United States in 1843 and preached in both English and German, helping people to know God’s love and compassion. He often visited the sick. He contracted yellow fever and died in 1867. He is the Patron Saint of Immigrants to the U.S.
Tuesday, October 6, St. Bruno, Priest: St. Bruno was born in Germany in 1030 AD and acquired an excellent reputation as a theologian. Eventually he became a hermit and founded the Carthusian Order, whose disciples led solitary and prayerful lives.
He was known for his great spirit of prayer, and devotion to the Blessed Virgin.
Also on Tuesday, October 6, Blessed Marie Rose Durocher, Virgin: Born in Lower Canada in 1811, she organized the first Canadian parish association of devout young women. Despite poverty, internal trials, and her own poor health, the congregation grew to eight houses by her death in 1849 at the age of 38.
Wednesday, October 7, Our Lady of the Rosary: This feast day honors Mary’s intercession through the Rosary and commemorates a Christian victory in 1571 against the Ottoman fleet. While not a holy day in the U.S., the entire month of October is associated with Mary and the Rosary, and Pope Leo XIII dedicated it as the “Month of the Rosary” in the late 1800s.
Friday, October 9, St. Denis, Bishop: Legend says he carried his severed head after being martyred for his faith, preaching for six miles. He is the Patron Saint of France alongside Joan of Arc and Louis IX.
Also on Friday, October 9, St. John Leonardi, Priest: Born in Italy, John Leonardi began his studies as a pharmacist and mastered herbal medicine. However, he discerned a deeper calling to serve souls, and in 1572 he was ordained a priest. His ministry focused on teaching the faith, caring for the sick, visiting hospitals and prisons, and promoting moral reform in the Church.
Saturday, October 10, The Blessed Virgin Mary: The Marian devotion on this day encourages you to attend Mass and pray the Rosary. Remember Mary in your personal prayer life.
