The Daily Mass Record Open for 2027

The Daily Mass Record for 2027, the book that the parish uses to keep track of Mass Intentions, will be open for next year beginning at 8:30 am on Tuesday, August 4. Please come to the parish office with your Mass Intentions, which cost $20 each. There is no limit on Mass Intentions at this time. Both cash and checks are acceptable payment methods.

 

57th Annual Festival Weekend

By all accounts, the festival was a great success. New and old friendships strengthened, good weather was a blessing, and enjoyment was had by hundreds of parishioners, friends, and neighbors of the parish. A hearty thank you to the many parishioners, along with family and friends, who made this a great festival. Many parishioners and friends of the parish began setting up the festival grounds three weeks ago, and some helped work at a booth or sponsored one. I always think the blue ribbon goes to the people who cook hamburgers, hot dogs, and bratwursts over the hot coals, even on the warmest of days. Our prayers were answered for two-and-a-half days of great festival weather. Thank you to all who prayed for the festival's success. It all ended Sunday evening with beautiful fireworks, especially the grand finale. We hope to see you all next year.

Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) 

Are you or someone you know an adult from any background who wants to join the Catholic Church? Perhaps you have been baptized and now, as an adult, want to be confirmed. Or you were baptized in another denomination and would like to become Catholic or learn more about Catholicism. The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults is the process to learn about the Catholic faith. It involves a series of generally fun, interactive, and interesting classes. These classes help prepare adults who wish to receive the Sacraments of the Holy Catholic Church. These classes will begin in early fall of this year.

School Garden Fence

The first school garden fence went up in 2015. It was an Eagle Scout project done by Johnny Smith. Over the past 10 years, our school students have used the garden to grow fresh vegetables and flowers. Recently, the fence has been replaced to strengthen some of the boards and make it more rabbit-proof. On behalf of the school and parish, we extend our thanks to parishioners Mark Rooney and Jonathan Zweifel, who worked to replace the fence during some of the hottest days of summer so far. Thank you both!

Leave of Absence  

Hello Parishioners. I would like to let you know that I will be taking a temporary leave of absence from my ministry as music liturgist and organist as I undergo knee replacement surgery on August 7. My recovery is expected to take about six to eight weeks. During that time, our parish liturgies will be supported by several highly qualified musicians, and I am grateful for their willingness to share their gifts with our parish community. I humbly ask for your prayers for a successful surgery and a smooth recovery. Please know that I will be keeping all of you in my prayers as well. I will miss making music and worshiping with you each week, and I look forward to returning to the organ bench and rejoining our parish family as soon as I am able. Blessings to all of you. 

Festival Thank You

Another year in the books! Sunday was a bit warm, but we still had a good crowd. Overall, the festival was a great success: food, family, and fun were enjoyed by all. We want to thank everyone who helped before, during, and after the festival. Without great volunteers like you, this festival would not have been the success it was, and hopefully always will be (July 2027). Thank you to all the members of the Festival Committee. They ensured every aspect was in place and ready to go. We would like to personally thank the volunteers who make up the grounds crew. Their hard work made it possible to have an easy Thursday and Friday before the festival. Please keep July of 2027 open, and let’s do it again.

Festival Food and Beverages for Sale

There will be sales of leftover festival food and beverages after all Masses on Sunday, August 2. There will be leftover meat, soda, beer, and some other miscellaneous items that were not used during the festival. Cash and checks are acceptable forms of payment.

24th Annual Seminary Dinner

The Saint Francis de Sales Seminary’s 24th Annual Dinner will be an evening to remember! You are invited to celebrate as our seminary prepares to welcome 27 new men in August, bringing the total to 90 seminarians.  What a blessing to have so many men willing to give their lives to Christ and His Church!

Please consider uniting with several hundred faithful Catholics for the Seminary Dinner at the Baird Center, 405 West Kilbourn Avenue, Milwaukee, on Friday, October 9. If you are unable to attend and would like to offer important help, you can do so by making a donation (a check, addressed to St. Francis de Sales Seminary, can be dropped off at the parish office).

Please consider joining your fellow parishioners at this joy-filled evening!  Dennis and Mary Baumgardner are organizing the group from St. John’s (checks are usually sent in together). If interested in further details, making a donation, or if you would like to attend, please contact Dennis/Mary by August 18 at the latest (414-427-0832).  If you need transportation, that can be arranged.
