Celebrating the Saints at Daily Mass This Week
This week, a couple of beloved Saints will be remembered and celebrated at our 8:00 a.m. Morning Mass. All are welcome.
On Monday, November 3, we commemorate the life and contributions of St. Martin de Porres. He is the first black saint of the Americas. He had a great love of the Eucharist and was known for caring equally for all, regardless of race or status. He founded an orphanage and school and even cared for the mice and rats at his monastery.
On Tuesday, November 4, it is the Feast Day of St. Charles Borromeo. He is best known for living during the time of the Protestant Reformation and for helping to influence the reform of the whole Church during the final years of the Council of Trent. He established seminaries, colleges, and communities for the education of candidates for holy orders. His emphasis on Catholic Learning greatly increased the preparation of men for the priesthood and benefited their congregations.
On Saturday, November 8, the Mass is in Honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
After School Care Help Needed
Our school is seeking help in the After-School Care Program. The employee provides a safe, fun program for students each school day from 2:30 p.m. until approximately 6:00 p.m. (or until the last student goes home). The employee must be willing to supervise students outdoors and to engage in indoor activities such as board games. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, submit to a criminal background check, and complete Archdiocesan Safeguarding training. Trunk or Treat
We had our annual Trunk or Treat event sponsored by our outstanding Home and School Committee. Families decorated their trunks and handed out candy. We had caramel apples and hot chocolate courtesy of our Home and School Committee. The smiles, laughter, costumes, trunk decorations, treats, and fun made it a great community event. "Live a life that reflects God's love."
We are pleased to announce that the Foundations of Faith program is now available in a live online format, in addition to our Monday evening (6:30–8:00 p.m.) and Tuesday afternoon (1:00–2:30 p.m.) in-person sessions. The online option costs the same ($45) and includes access to all session materials and the weekly online prayer study. Additionally, our Foundations of Faith companion study on St. Augustine of Hippo’s Confessions will begin in the second week of November. This seminar offers an opportunity to explore one of the great classics of the Catholic intellectual tradition in a setting that reflects the depth and spirit of an undergraduate philosophy/theology seminar. Sunday, November 2, 2025 | The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day) | John 6:37–40
Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus talks about raising us on the last day. Our faith is that God will clothe the soul in a new and higher body, what Paul calls a “spiritual body.” Here we might rely on the musings of John Polkinghorne, the Christian physicist, who appreciates the soul as the “form” or pattern of the person. God remembers this “form” and then reconstitutes it at a higher level during the resurrection, much as the pattern of an article or a photograph could be preserved in a computer’s memory and then reproduced in a new way.
Listen again to the words of Jesus in our Gospel today: “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me.” As you pray for the souls of your beloved dead, take comfort in those words. They will be raised again.

St. John’s is fortunate to have 24-hour Perpetual Adoration. Please take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to draw closer to God.
We have two open hours of Adoration:
Every Other Tuesday (twice per month), 1:00 to 2:00 a.m.
Saturdays, Midnight to 1:00 a.m.
We are also seeking a second Adorer for many late-evening and overnight hours, particularly on Saturdays at 1:00 a.m. Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. Also on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:00 p.m. If you are looking for some quiet time to be with Our Lord, please consider signing up.
