Our biggest need will be Sunday evening after the Fireworks, which is when the tear-down begins, taking down the festival booths and putting away all of their parts. What is accomplished in those first few hours after the festival is amazing. In addition to Sunday evening, Festival take-down will continue Monday through Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each weekday and from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. each weeknight. We encourage, particularly the young and strong, to help. Thank you ahead of time for sharing your time and talent with St. John’s Parish.
Saints Remembered This Week
As July comes to a close and we embrace August, there are a few saints being celebrated this week:
July 29: The Memorial of Saints Martha and Mary, and their brother Lazarus, who were all close friends of Jesus. It is said that in their home, Jesus experienced the family spirit and friendship of the three.
July 30: St. Peter Chrysologus, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, who was known for his exceptional oratorical skills and impactful homilies.
July 31: St. Ignatius of Loyola, one of the major players in the founding of the Jesuits. The growth in retreat ministry is attributed to him, as most Catholic and Protestant retreats offer the “Ignatian Retreat.”
August 1: St. Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop, Doctor of the Church, and founder of the Redemptorists Order, whose writings continue to be popular and well-read, covering many varied topics.
August 2: St. Eusebius of Vercelli, Bishop and Martyr, for standing up for his faith, and St. Peter Julian Eymard, a priest who is greatly known for his promotion of Eucharistic Adoration and his great love and emphasis on the Blessed Mother.
If possible, please join us for our 8:00 a.m. weekday Mass.
