Festival Week
Our festival is just days away. Let us pray for the success of our festival, particularly for good weather, safety, and enjoyment for all who come to enjoy and volunteer at the festival. Set-up continues all this week, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Please contact Bob Stemo at (414) 750-8356 to volunteer with the set-up.
There is still a need during the festival for folks to help in the Hamburger/Hot Dog Booth in four-hour shifts. Please call Cheryl Cincotta at (414) 378-5222. For general volunteers, please call Marie Stemo at (414) 427-7467. And check this weekend’s bulletin cover or last week’s bulletin insert for more information on the festival.
Respect Life - St. John the Evangelist
Earlier this spring, Kathy Knaack told me that after 13 years of leading the Respect Life Committee here at St. John’s Parish, it was time for her to retire. Over the 13 years Kathy has organized Respect Life activities, she has held a great variety of events to help the pre-born and to make us ever more aware of life issues: Wednesday’s Respect Life Holy Hour, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Novenas, Selling of Roses, showing pro-life movies, and much more. As Kathy steps down, a big thank you for her many hours of service for Life.
We are now looking for someone or several people to lead the Respect Life Committee. The candidates are ideally people who have a passion for Life issues that face our “death” culture in the 21st Century. If you are interested, please contact me. I am sure Kathy would be willing to pass on her many resources to her successor. God Bless You, Kathy, for your faithfulness to Jesus and the Church.
This Week at Mass
Memorials and Feasts
Each day this week, we have a memorial or feast day as we celebrate Mass:
Monday: St. Lawrence of Brindisi, who was a Capuchin priest and Doctor of the Church. He was commissioned by the Pope to work for the conversion of the Jewish people and combat the spread of Protestantism.
Tuesday: St. Mary Magdalene, celebrated for her role as a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, being present at the crucifixion and being the first to witness and proclaim His resurrection.
Wednesday: St. Bridget, recognized as a mystic and founder of the Bridgettine Order. She had a profound spiritual life, marked by visions and revelations. She dedicated her life to serving God and the poor.
Thursday: St. Sharbel Makhlouf, Priest. More miracles are attributed to his intercession than to any other saint. Many people attend church services on this feast day and pray for healing.
Friday: Feast of St. James, Apostle, one of the 12 Apostles, distinguished for being in Jesus’ innermost circle. His martyrdom is recorded in the New Testament. His feast day commemorates his execution by King Herod around 44 AD.
Saturday: St. Joachim and St. Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary, making them the grandparents of Jesus. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of family and the transmission of faith through generations.
When able, please join us for weekday morning Mass at 8:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
