This Week at Mass
This coming week, we have four great Saints to remember at our daily Masses.
On Monday, July 14, the church invites us to remember the life of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American to be canonized by the Catholic Church. Known as the “Lily of the Mohawks,” Kateri lived a life of holiness and virtue, despite obstacles and opposition within her tribe. She spent long hours in prayer and practiced extreme fasting. It is said she reached the highest levels of mystical union with God, and many miracles were attributed to her. She spent most of her life in poor health and died at the young age of 24.
On Wednesday, we have a beautiful Marian and Carmelite Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This special day honors Mary and calls for everyone to reflect on Mary’s love and care for all her children. It is said she appeared to English Carmelite St. Simon Stock in the 13th century and gave him the Brown Scapular, a garment worn as a sign of Mary’s protection during our lives and at the time of our death.
Thursday, we will remember the 13th-century Franciscan Saint and Theologian St. Bonaventure, who was both a Bishop and Doctor of the Church. He is known for his leadership of the Franciscans and his great intellectual contributions to theology and philosophy. It is said that in his youth, he was cured of a dangerous illness by the intercession of St. Francis of Assisi and years later, joined the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor.
On Friday, the church celebrates St. Camillus, who turned from his life as a soldier and gambler to become the founder of an order dedicated to caring for the sick, both their physical and spiritual care. He suffered physical ailments throughout his life and is said to have spent time with the sick, even while unable to walk, by crawling from bed to bed. He is the patron saint of the sick.
When you are able, please join us at daily Mass.
2025 Catholic Stewardship Appeal
To date, our parish has contributed $45,964 to this year’s Archdiocesan Stewardship Appeal. The financial goal set for our parish is $72,406. Please prayerfully consider making a generous donation to this very worthwhile cause, as the Catholic Stewardship Appeal financially supports all the Archdiocesan ministries.
Building and Grounds Improvements
Two of the summer projects at St. John’s previously mentioned are now well underway. The new security system has been installed, and we are awaiting training on its use. Also, the installation work of the two new HV/AC units for the school and gym began early on Tuesday morning.
Summer Vacation and Jesus
As mentioned last Sunday, each time the Gospel is proclaimed at Mass, we begin with the invitation and recognition of Jesus being in our Minds, Lips, and Hearts, as we bless ourselves. Wherever our summer travels and activities take us, be sure to bring and share the Goodness of Jesus.
