Come Holy Spirit
Solemnity of Pentecost
This Sunday, the Catholic Church throughout the world will bring to a close the Easter season of 2025. We do so with the celebration of Pentecost-the indwelling of the Holy Spirit upon and within the Apostles and those gathered in the upper room. For those who are reading the bulletin online before Sunday, please remember to wear something RED to church this weekend. Red is the official color of the Solemnity.
Two years ago, the Christian Women Society purchased the beautiful Holy Spirit wood carving from Italy for our parish Church. It hangs off the rafter in the Sanctuary. When we see the carving of the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove, it is a reminder to invoke the Holy Spirit to stir into flame the faith in Jesus Christ that we received in the Sacrament of Baptism. A favorite prayer to the Holy Spirit comes from St. Augustine. May we all pray this prayer often.
Come Holy Spirit
Breathe in me,
O Holy Spirit,
That my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me,
O Holy Spirit,
That my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart,
O Holy Spirit,
That I love, but what is holy.
Strengthen me,
O Holy Spirit,
To defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then,
O Holy Spirit,
That I always may be holy.
