Lent
Forty days of Lent begins this coming Wednesday, March 5. We will have three Masses with the distribution of Ashes after the Homily. Masses are at 8:00 a.m., Noon, and 6:30 p.m. We will also livestream the 8:00 a.m. and Noon Masses.
During Lent, we are asked to improve and enhance our spiritual lives with prayer, fasting, and acts of charity. The way we incorporate prayer into our lives is to pick a time of day and the place where we will pray. With those two ingredients, then prayer will follow. For those who are able to attend daily Mass, it is a beautiful Lenten practice. One parishioner said she decided to go to Mass every day during Lent, and after Lent, she continued the practice.
During Lent, it is also a good idea to find a book with spiritual themes. If you choose to read the Bible, it is best to begin by reading the Gospel’s accounts. We are asked to fast during Lent. Recently, on Relevant Radio, someone asked what is the value of fasting since it is not a means to diet nor a way of earning your way into Heaven. The person said fasting helps us say “No” to ourselves in small ways, such as giving up soda, candy, or meat on Fridays. When the devil tempts us to indulge in sinful ways, we can resist his temptations. Because of fasting, saying “No” to Satan comes easier because we have established the pattern of saying “No” to ourselves. Also, during Lent, we will have Stations of the Cross on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in the church.
Litany of Trust by the Sisters of Life-Part Two
The Litany of Trust is a prayer composed by Sister Faustina Maria Pia, SV. In it, we place our trust in His promises.
That You are continually holding me, sustaining me, loving me…Jesus, I trust in you.
That Your love goes deeper than my sins and failings and transforms me…Jesus, I trust in you.
That not knowing what tomorrow brings is an invitation to lean on You…Jesus, I trust in you.
That You are with me in my suffering…Jesus, I trust in you.
That my suffering united to Your own will bear fruit in this life and the next…Jesus, I trust in you.
That You will not leave me an orphan, that You are present in Your Church…Jesus, I trust in you.
That Your plan is better than anything else…Jesus, I trust in you.
That You always hear me, and in Your goodness always respond to me…Jesus, I trust in you.
That You give me the grace to accept forgiveness and to forgive others…Jesus, I trust in you.
That You give me all the strength I need for what is asked…Jesus, I trust in you.
That my life is a gift…Jesus, I trust in you.
That You will teach me to trust You…Jesus, I trust in you.
That You are my Lord and my God…Jesus, I trust in you.
That I am Your beloved one…Jesus, I trust in you.
Amen.
