Catholic Schools and Catholic Schools Week
This week in our Archdiocese, as well as throughout the United States, we are celebrating Catholic Schools Week. For nearly 55 years, St. John’s Parish has been blessed to have an Elementary and Junior High Catholic Grade School (K4-8th grade). In the early years of St. John’s School, the principal and some of the staff were members of the Slovenian Franciscan Sisters from Lemont, IL. Today, our staff is made up of men and women who live in the surrounding Milwaukee area. We are very blessed to have a well-trained, creative staff who have years of experience working with and teaching children.
Never before have Catholic schools been so important for our youth and society: schools that pass on to the younger generations our Catholic faith, morals, and the essentials of Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic, all of which are now often absent from our secular schools and world. On behalf of our students at St. John’s, and as we celebrate our yearly gift of Catholic Schools, I give a warm and hearty thank you to all the parishioners and staff of St. John’s parish who, through your sacrificial offerings, make our day school a living and thriving reality.
Each school year, a theme is picked. This year, our theme is “Keeping Our Eyes Fixed on Jesus.” This is a beautiful reminder of what we are about as a Catholic and Religious Parish School.
More on Poor Souls -
A Month with our Friends, the Souls in Purgatory
“What a joy this is for you who are mourning a father, a mother, a spouse, a child! You can still show them signs of your love through your devotion; you can be their liberating angel. Hurry then; break their chains and pay their debts that those dear souls may fly up to Heaven, to the bosom of the triumphant Church.
Let us Pray:
Oh Jesus! Abandoned by all in the garden of Gethsemane, even by your apostles, have mercy on all the holy Saints in Purgatory, especially those who receive no prayers and consolations from the living. Be their consoler, their liberator. Oh Jesus! Call to Heaven, those dear children who are abandoned by their own family. May they rest in peace!”
